Pineapple Ham - and other tips for the Perfect Spring Ham!

Cooked Hams are the perfect centerpiece to any celebration, but especially your favorite spring holidays, including Easter and Mother's Day! In our previous posts, we talked a lot about cooking hams and our favorite ham glazes, including our Brown Sugar Honey Glaze and Pineapple Juice - for a pineapple ham inspiration! Below is a reminder of how to cook a ham with pineapple and brown sugar.

Brown Sugar Ham Glaze and Pineapple Juice

  • Mix together 1 c. Brown Sugar, 1/2 c. Honey, 1/2 c. Pineapple Juice & 1/3 c. Corn Starch in a small pot over medium heat on the stove.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat for a low boil and cook for 15 minutes. Be sure to stir it constantly.
  • Remove the glaze from the stove.
  • Once the glaze is complete, brush the entire ham with glaze prior to re-heating, reserving the glaze to brush on the ham two times during the heating process and upon removal from the oven. Serve & enjoy your pineapple ham or a pineapple honey glazed ham to be more precise!

*Note can garnish with maraschino cherries if desired.

Pineapple Ham

Beyond the glaze, we suggest these tips to create a cooked ham you are proud to serve for any occasion.

The ham glaze will have pineapple juice included, but you can also use pineapple to beautifully display your ham and add great flavor.

  • Take a fully cooked ham - when you have 30 minutes of heating time left- and remove it from the oven. Use a knife to score the ham into a 1" pattern - creating a diamond pattern.
  • Press a clove into the center of each diamond - depending on the size of the ham, you'll need about 24 total cloves.
  • Using toothpicks secure 3-4 Pineapple rings on top of the ham.
  • After the remaining 30 minutes of heating time, remove the ham from the oven - remove the pineapple slices and arrange around the base of the ham and finish any cooking instructions for your almost- pineapple ham!

Serve & enjoy your very own Pineapple Ham!

Ham Slices on a Platter - is an easy way to serve & pass around the table at a large gathering!

This may sound simple, but sometimes "carving" your ham can be intimidating!  We offer these easy tips for removing the bone from your smoked ham.

For an Unsliced Ham:

  • Place the ham on the cutting board, glaze (or fat) side up.
  • Start by sliding the knife down the side of the bone to remove a large section of meat.
  • Slice ham into the desired slice thickness and arrange it on your platter for serving.

For a Spiral Sliced Ham:

  • Place the ham on the cutting board, glaze (or fat) side up.
  • Take a thin-bladed knife and move it all around the bone - to release the ham onto the cutting board - large portions will fall easily.
  • Arrange on a serving platter & enjoy!

You can add pineapple slices and drizzle any remaining glaze for an excellent presentation of sliced pineapple ham!
